Phases
The framework is simple. It begins by designing a shared vision for sustainable technology with key stakeholders in tech, including CTOs, product managers, developers, testers, and others. Next, it progresses to mapping the current reality of unsustainable practices using systems mapping tools like causal loop diagrams. The creative tension between this vision and the existing reality is crucial, and the framework encourages tech teams to work towards the vision. Once the current reality is accurately mapped, teams identify leverage points—areas where interventions can deliver the highest impact. Subsequently, brainstorming and designing interventions to bridge the gap between the vision and current reality take place. After finalizing these interventions and allocating budgets and resources, departmental and individual goals and action plans are created, aligned with quantified objectives. The objecitves are then evaluated; successes and learnings are reported, driving further iteration by reiterating both the vision and the current reality to continuously improve outcomes.
This phase lays the foundation for the entire framework, establishing a well articulated shared vision for sustainable technology that will guide all subsequent actions and objectives. It’s important because it imagines the future where technology operates in harmony with environmental and societal well-being.
This phase looks at the variables and their relationships with each other that make tech unsustainable.
By analyzing the systems map from Phase 2, this phase allows participants to identify critical “leverage points” areas where targeted interventions will yield the most significant positive impact on achieving sustainable tech goals.
This phase focuses on designing fundamental interventions for long-term impact, to address the leverage points identified in Phase-3. The goal is to bridge the gap between the sustainability vision and current reality through interventions that have a long term impact.
This phase helps in building quantified goals and action plan to implement the interventions.
This phase provides the evidence needed to adapt, evolve, and progress towards a truly sustainable trajectory.
